Ballyboden St. Endas 1-06 vs Parnells 1-11

Parnells made the trip to reigning County Champions Ballyboden St. Endas last night and claimed 2 vital league points. Having performed well in their last two league games but narrowly missing out on points this match had added importance. The 'Nells started the brightest and John Peyton got the score board rolling with a sweet left foot effort. Peyton again slotted a free before Bodens' Declan O'Mahony capitalised on a defensive mix up to riffle a shot to the roof of Stephen Cluxtons net. The ideal response came straight from the resulting kick out as a slick move from Parnells was fisted over by Karl McGuckin. The Parnells defence marshalled superbly by Mal Keena and Colm Begley was sniffing out the threat posed by the home side and creating opportunities for their attacking team mates. These opportunities were converted with Niall Collins firing over from an acute angle and Darren Rooney hitting the net under pressure. With half time approaching Cluxton made the long journey from his goal to slot a 45'. At the interval Parnells lead by 4 points 1-06 to 1-02. On the resumption the intensity of the game lifted and the sides exchanged 2 scores each. Parnells were still carving out scoring chances but the final shot was not of the standard of their first half. With 15 minutes remaining Bodens County star Michael McAuley went to full forward and the direct ball nearly paid dividends straight away as Cluxton had to smartly leave his line to save from point blank range. Eddie Delahunt pounced on the rebound and the ball was moved quickly through the hands before being delivered to the reliable Peyton to fire over. This proved the critical score in the game and Parnells now had some breathing space. In the final 10 minutes Boden pressurised the Nells square but the defence stood firm and the swift counter attacks resulted in some more sublime scores from Peyton and Collins. Parnells ran out comfortable winners in the end.
