U21 hurlers pipped by St. Pats

Under 21 HCC Final St Patricks (P) 2-18 Parnells 3-10 (aet)
Our U. 21 hurlers produced a gutsy display last night that ultimately ended in defeat after extra time. Parnells settled the quickest with a fine score from corner forward Colm Geary. Both sides then missed some opportunities before Colm McDonald fired over for the Nells. Shane Stapletons accuracy from the dead ball was keeping St. Pats in touch. Then the 1st goal arrived for Parnells when Geary batted to the net from a long range free. Aaron Jamesom and Dublin Senior Liam Rushe were having a ding dong battle on the 40. The teams were level at the break 1-04 to 0-07. The roles were reversed in the second half with St. Pats gaining the upper hand early. Rushe now at full forward chipped over 2 impressive efforts and Stapleton added to the St. Pats tally. Parnells needed a response and Jonathon Maloney arrived off the bench to fire over a point and also have a hand in the move that was brilliantly dispatched to the Pats net by Stephen Duffy. Parnells were flying a third goal from Geary flew in before sublime points from McDonald and Duffy. St. Pats never dropped theirs heads and were back in the game when who else put Stapleton found himself 20 yards from goal and fired a rocket to the top corner. The final whistle sounded and extra time was needed to separate the teams. With the frost descending and fatigue arriving quickly the young Nells seemed to suffer more. St. Pats fired over 5 unanswered points in the extra periods to run out winners. Our young team must take so many positives from this match, they have done themselves, their managers and the club proud on this historic Championship run! We look forward to supporting the lads in finals again very soon.....
